Il Fez
E’ un copricapo tradizionale dei Bersaglieri, la cui origine risale alla Guerra di Crimea. Infatti, La Marmora* ne ottenne una certa quantità dagli alleati turchi anche se i turchi li adoperavano rigidi, ed una volta tolta l’intelaiatura interna nacque il vero e proprio fez dei Bersaglieri, a cui in un secondo tempo venne applicato all’estremità superiore del gambo un cordoncino di lana o seta azzurra lungo terminante a fiocco.
It is a traditional headgear of the Bersaglieri, whose origin dates back to the Crimean War. In fact, La Marmora * obtained a certain amount from the Turkish allies even if the Turks used them rigid, and once the internal frame was removed the real Bersaglieri fez was born, to which at a later time it was applied to the upper extremity of the stem a long woolen or blue silk cord ending in a bow.
Alcuni testi affermano che i Bersaglieri ottennero i fez dagli zuavi francesi che già li adoperavano. Probabilmente ciò fu anche vero dal momento che è accertato storicamente questo dono da parte degli zuavi francesi ai Bersaglieri, in omaggio al loro valore.
Some texts claim that the Bersaglieri obtained the fez from the French Zouaves who already used them. Probably this was also true since it is historically ascertained that this gift from the French Zuavi to the Bersaglieri, in homage to their value.
Il fez era destinato alla truppa ed ai sottufficiali fino al sergente maggiore, che l’adoperavano durante le esercitazioni con la tenuta da fatica. Era portato comunque, e lo è portato tutt’ora quando non viene portato cappello o l’elmetto.
The fez was destined for the troops and the non-commissioned officers up to the sergeant major, who used it during the exercises with the fatigue seal. He was brought anyway, and he still took it when he was not wearing a hat or helmet.
